Extra buses will run on major corridors to the city from the Northern Beaches, North Shore, Inner West, Eastern Suburbs and Hills District.

People attending the festivities are advised to ditch the car and catch public transport to avoid disruptions to their trip.


Traffic is expected to be heavy around the parade route so motorists are advised to avoid the area or consider leaving the car at home.

Roads start closing from 3pm with major closures in place from 5pm.

Key closures include Liverpool Street, College Street, Oxford Street, Flinders Street and sections of Anzac Parade and Moore Park Road.


All roads are expected to reopen by 4am.

More than 30,000 spectators are expected at this year’s Mardi Gras Parade at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, with those attending advised to bring a face mask and plan their travel to and from the event with public transport still running at COVID safe capacities to help maintain physical distancing across the network.

If you’re catching rideshare or taxi, the best drop off area is on the northern end of Driver Avenue, entry from Moore Park Road. Alternatively, consider dropping off on other nearby local roads and continuing on-foot to avoid traffic delays.

“While public transport continues to operate at COVID safe capacities, queues for trams and buses are expected to be long, particularly after the parade as everyone tends to leave around the same time so allow plenty of time getting home,” Mr Hutchings said.
