Is CBD Legal in Memphis?
Yes, CBD is legal in Memphis and in the entire state of Tennesee.
The 2018 Farm Bill made quick work of changing the legal status of CBD. The most important change was making the distinction between hemp and marijuana. Hemp is classified as any hemp plant or derivative of the plant that contains less than 0.3% THC. Marijuana is any hemp plant with more than 0.3% THC. This bill effectively removed hemp from the list of Controlled Substances and, therefore, became legal.
CBD is legal in Tennessee, but you can get CBD with higher THC levels if you have a medical card.
Is Marijuana Legal In Memphis?
Currently, marijuana is prohibited in Memphis. If you are caught with less than half an ounce, it’s classified as a misdemeanor and punishable with a $250 fine or one year in prison.
Unlike other states, Tennessee does not have a medical marijuana program. The only marijuana product that can be purchased is CBD, and patients must have a medical card to do so.
Is Delta 8 THC Legal in Memphis?
Delta 8 THC is a relatively new compound and is available under a legal grey area. It’s derived from CBD, which makes it legal in Memphis.
This product is similar to delta 9 THC and can make you high but without the intensity. It offers similar effects, like reduced nausea and pain and increased appetite.

8. CBD Hemp Flower
Hemp flower is a high-CBD strain of the cannabis plant and is used to make CBD oil and hemp extracts. The flowers are typically covered in trichomes, which contain the majority of cannabinoids within the plant. These trichomes can be harvested through a refining process to produce raw CBD oil. The flower can also be rolled into a joint or used in a vaporizer.
What’s the Difference Between Hemp & Marijuana?
The difference between hemp and marijuana comes down to the THC content. Hemp has a higher concentration of CBD and little to no THC, whereas marijuana is high in THC and low in CBD. Legally, hemp contains THC concentrations of less than 0.3%, and marijuana has THC concentrations of more than 0.03%.
While both hemp and marijuana come from the same cannabis species, they are technically different cultivars, which is why they have such vastly different applications.

IMPROVING LIVES THROUGH AQUAPONICS
Aquaponics is a form of agriculture that combines raising fish in tanks (recirculating aquaculture) with soilless plant culture (hydroponics). In aquaponics, the nutrient-rich water from raising fish provides a natural fertilizer for the plants and, in turn, the plants help to purify the water for the fish. It’s a win-win in our little ecosystem.
Indoor Aquaponic Cannabis Farm
Our indoor aquaponic farm offers a scalable vertical approach to high-quality fish, cannabis plants, and products. We are committed to transparent end-to-end (farm-to-shelf) supply chain management to add trust for our customers and industry partners. Using our Controlled Environment Cannabis Production methods (CECP), we are continually monitoring and changing the environments for our fish, plants, and facility. In turn, this allows us to bring our customers and partners a consistently high-quality end product while minimizing environmental impact.
The growing methods that our aquaponic farm utilizes lend us to a quick turnaround compared to current crop varieties that take between 8-10 weeks to grow and harvest. As a result, this means our end consumer product is never older than a few months. Currently, we can harvest about 6 times per year, and we grow plants and raise fish 365 days per year!
We aim to always give back to our community and stay friendly to the environment. To do that, we currently donate our fish to local homeless shelters, and our aquaponic operation uses 90% less water than traditional agriculture.

We’ve always had a relationship with cannabis products, but our mission didn’t start until a few years ago. The mother of Collin Bercier, our founder and the owner of Ounce of Hope, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Collin’s mom fought both Polio and Multiple Sclerosis in her 65 years of life. She spent her last years in Louisiana, where she had no legal access to cannabis. It was “illegal” at the time, which means even those that could benefit medically, even just to help dull the pain, were restricted from the plant.
That sparked a fire in Collin, and with that fire, a mission to provide high-quality, medicinal alternatives to anyone who could benefit from it.
Bercier put together a team of passionate individuals. Some are on the frontlines, helping out in our dispensaries. Some are raising our beautiful fish and cannabis plants through our impressive aquaponics system. Others are behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly. Together, we’re a dedicated team with a clear goal at heart.
We looked at multiple studies on all the potential CBD and other cannabinoids have for MS and other ailments. We saw all the possibilities, and we see them put into action, every day.
Now, we acknowledge that cannabis, as well as any of its compounds, is not a cure for anything. But we do also know that Collin’s mom’s quality of life would’ve massively improved if she’d had access to what we spent years formulating — or even the dang plant itself.
It’s why we chose Memphis as our flagship city. Louisiana’s laws were so prohibited, and Tennessee had its arms wide open to this industry. Since the state (and Memphis itself) was familiar already to Collin, he wasted no time getting back to his roots.
Since our origin, the Memphis community and even many other communities across the nation have been supportive beyond our imagination. We will continue to invest in our community; in our people. We’re so blessed to be a part of Memphis as we grow and expand each day. And we know Collin’s mom would’ve been so incredibly proud of the journey we’ve all been on.
Each of us has dedicated our time to learning everything we can about the products we provide. CBD and Delta-8 THC’s potential continues to astound and amaze us. We sit, in awe, at how many users we help each day.
Whether you are a repeat, loyal shopper, or a new customer just trying to see what this crazy thing is all about, it is our earnest desire to help anyone we can.
Here at Ounce of Hope, we know what we stand for, and we’re here to help. Reach out with any and all questions you may have, whether it be about a product, our story, or anything in between. And welcome to the family!
