How CBD May Help With Gout

Gout is a painful type of arthritis (1) . The condition occurs when urate crystals accumulate in the joints, causing inflammation and pain that may lead to a gout attack (2) . Urate crystals can form when individuals have high uric acid levels in their blood.

Uric acid , found in blood, i s created when the body breaks down purines (3) .

Purines are substances found in the body’s cells and some foods, including organ meats , like liver and red meat (4) .

Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant (5) . CBD has anti-inflammatory properties (6) . The non-psychoactive compound also has pain-relieving effects (7) .

Since gout is associated with pain and inflammation, CBD’s purported health benefits may help with such a condition.

A study mentioned that the body’s endocannabinoid system or ECS plays a crucial role in regulating tissue inflammation and pain (8) .

The ECS comprises cannabinoid receptors, namely CB1 and CB2 receptors , endocannabinoids, and enzymes (9) .

Plant-based cannabinoids , such as CBD and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), may mimic the actions of the body’s endocannabinoids, allowing them to interact with both CB1 and CB2 receptors (10) .

CB1 receptors play a significant role in pain sensation. Meanwhile, CB2 receptors stimulate a response that fights inflammation (11) .

THC , the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis (sometimes called marijuana), may act as a partial agonist at CB1 and CB2 receptors (12-13) .

It is believed that THC’s high affinity with the CB1 receptors may mediate its psychoactive properties (14) . Unlike THC , CBD has little binding affinity for CB1 and CB2 receptors .

Despite CBD’s negligible affinity to CB1 and CB2 receptors , recent research suggested that CBD may be an allosteric modulator and an indirect antagonist of cannabinoid receptors (15) .

Allosteric modulators refer to a group of substances that bind a receptor to alter that receptor’s response to a stimulus.

CBD may also potentiate the effect of THC ( 16) . In addition, cannabidiol may regulate pain perception by affecting the activity of numerous targets, including G protein-coupled receptors or GPCRs (17) .

GPCRs are the largest membrane receptors in eukaryotes. Meanwhile, eukaryotes refer to any cell that has a clearly defined nucleus.

CBD may be a relatively non-toxic option for managing chronic pain (18) .

Still, research on CBD as a potential treatment for gout and other medical conditions is in its infancy, and thus, inconclusive.

Benefits of Using CBD for Gout

Physicians place gout under the umbrella term “arthritis,” a wide range of joint pain and joint diseases (19) .

A research article published in the European Journal of Pain suggested that topical CBD application may have therapeutic potential to relieve arthritis pain -related inflammation and behaviors without harmful side effects (20) .

High blood pressure or HBP is a risk factor for developing gout (21) .

A randomized crossover study from the JCI Insight journal hypothesized that a single dose of CBD may reduce blood pressure in healthy volunteers (22) .

CBD has also shown promise in murine model studies by attenuating pro-inflammatory immune responses (23) .

In addition, recent research has demonstrated CBD’s efficacy in decreasing pain response in mice subjected to acute arthritic conditions (24) .

Still, there is a lack of high-quality research examining the use of CBD in human musculoskeletal diseases apart from anecdotal accounts.

According to an article from the Arthritis Foundation website, some individuals with arthritis who have tried CBD reported noticeable pain relief , anxiety reduction, and sleep improvement (25) .

T here has been a high prevalence of CBD use among elite rugby players. According to the players who use CBD , the compound helps enhance their recovery, alleviate pain, and promote sleep (26) .

An article from Cleveland Clinic states that people with arthritis may experience mental distress leading to anxiety (27) .

A 2019 study from the Permanente Journal indicated that CBD may have benefits for anxiety-related disorders (28) .

The potential therapeutic benefits of CBD may be promising. However, more longitudinal research is warranted to determine whether CBD is an effective treatment for severe pain and certain medical conditions like gout.

How to Take CBD for Gout

There is no universally accepted method of taking CBD for gout and other forms of arthritis since CBD products are still unregulated.

CBD products are available in vapes, tinctures , edibles like gummies and capsules, and topicals like lotions and creams.

CBD topicals are applied to the skin for localized relief. In addition, it has been shown that CBD may decrease muscle tightness and inflammation when applied topically (29) .

Gout is associated with pain and inflammation (30) . Hence, using CBD topically may help with gout.

CBD Oil Dosage for Gout

A study using a rat model of arthritis showed that the topical application of CBD may have potential therapeutic relief of arthritis pain -related behaviors and inflammation without detrimental side effects (31) .

The study specifically examined the efficacy of transdermal CBD for inflammation and pain reduction. The rats received CBD gels (0.6, 3.1, 6.2. Or 62.3mg per day) for four consecutive days following arthritis induction.

The transdermal method is a route of administration in which active ingredients are delivered across the skin for systematic distribution.

The results showed that 6.2 and 62mg of CBD per day may be effective doses to relieve arthritis pain -related behaviors and inflammation (32) .

However, a human study is warranted to determine CBD’s efficacy on human subjects.

How Long Does CBD Take to Help With Gout?

How long CBD takes effect to help with gout depends on the method of administration used and several other factors, like the potency of the CBD product chosen.

You may feel CBD’s effect within 15 to 30 minutes when you apply CBD topically (33) .

Some topical CBD products contain THC , which may be effective for pain relief (34 ) . Still, cannabinoids like THC and CBD, when applied to the skin, do not enter the bloodstream . Thus, they should not cause impairment (35) .

How Long Will CBD Help With Gout?

Bioavailability is the extent to which a particular substance becomes entirely available to its intended biological destinations (36) .

CBD, when applied topically, does not become available to the body as a whole, so its bioavailability is zero (37) .

Instead, CBD and other cannabinoids like THC are picked up by numerous CB2 receptors in the skin. They are absorbed locally to provide pain relief and reduce inflammation in specific body areas (38) .

How to Choose the Right CBD for Gout

Selecting the best CBD oil for gout from various CBD products in the market can be challenging. Here are some essential factors to consider to help you choose the right one:

1. Ensure that the CBD dispensaries or online stores you choose are authorized to manufacture, distribute, and sell CBD products .

2. Choose a CBD brand that enlists the services of a third-party laboratory to test all its products.

Check the certificates of analysis (COAs) and lab reports to ensure that no heavy metals, pesticides, or harmful substances are present .

3. Find a CBD company that uses all-natural , non-GMO hemp. Trusted CBD brands produce hemp plants or buy from companies that practice sustainable farming.

4. Learn more about the different CBD extracts and extraction methods used.

F ull-spectrum CBD oil product contains all compounds of the cannabis plant , including cannabidiol and other cannabinoids , essential oils , terpenes , and flavonoids (39) .

Full-spectrum CBD products have less than 0.3% THC concentration (40) .

Terpenes are natural oils that give cannabis and various other herbs, fruits, and plant s color, flavor, and aroma (41) .

Terpenes or terpenoids have many pharmacological and biological activities, including anti-inflammatory , antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties (42) .

Meanwhile, flavonoids are active compounds found in cannabis that contribute to the plant’s pigmentation, aroma, and flavor (43) . Flavonoids have synergistic relationships with other active compounds like terpenes .

Broad-spectrum CBD is similar to the full-spectrum variant . The sole difference is that broad-spectrum CBD is nearly THC -free (44) . On the other hand, CBD isolates are made of pure CBD.

As for cannabis plant extraction, some common methods include solvent, ethanol, and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) extraction techniques (45) .

In carbon dioxide extraction, compressed CO 2 is utilized as the extraction solvent instead of flammable and toxic chemical solvents (46) .

Is CBD Safe for Gout?

More scientific data is warranted to understand better the use and safety profile of CBD products for gout.

However, the WHO (World Health Organization) states that CBD is relatively safe for use and well tolerated in humans and animals (47) .

Additionally, a review from the Current Drug Safety journal indicated that chronic use and high doses of CBD up to 1,500mg each day are well tolerated in humans (48) .

However, more human and animal studies are recommended to support these reports further .

The Possible Side Effects and Risks of Using CBD for Gout

CBD use may carry some risks and side effects . Generally, CBD may cause dry mouth, drowsiness, fatigue, diarrhea, and reduced appetite (49) .

Another cause for concern is CBD’s possible interaction with other prescription medications (50) .

Cytochrome P450 is a family of liver enzymes that metabolize approximately 60% of the pharmaceutical drugs people consume (51) .

At high doses, CBD may inhibit the activity of these enzymes, increasing the duration of action and effect of prescription drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 (52) .

Common medications to treat gout attacks include over-the-counter NSAIDs ( nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as ibuprofen and naproxen sodium (53) .

NSAIDs use the cytochrome P450 enzyme system (54) . Hence, CBD may interact with NSAIDs .

Legality of CBD

The 2018 Farm Bill states that Cannabis sativa L . and other derivatives of cannabis with no more than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis are considered legal under federal law (55) .

However, it would be better to familiarize yourself with various state laws regarding legal marijuana or medical cannabis .

Before, hemp and CBD oil were illegal in South Dakota (56) . However, on October 25, 2021, the South Dakota Department of Health launched medical cannabis establishments (57) .

CBD for Gout – August 2022

According to the John Hopkins Arthritis Center, several drugs can be used to treat gout flare-ups (5 ) . These include:

  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), like ibuprofen and naproxen
  • Colchicine
  • Corticosteroids

While the medications mentioned previously are effective, doctors often prescribe higher dosages to manage an acute attack of gout. These changes could cause side effects, which may be harmful to some people.

Mayo Clinic says side effects from using NSAIDs include high risks of developing stomach pain, bleeding, and ulcers (6 ) . Meanwhile, colchicine use can result in vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea.

The use of corticosteroids can lead to sudden mood changes, high blood pressure , and increased blood sugar levels (7 ) . Corticosteroids are often prescribed to patients who cannot take NSAIDs and colchicine .

Gout is an incurable type of arthritis that affects joints, particularly the big toe joint. However, with medications and self-management, it can be treated (8 ) .

To avoid the side effects of gout medications, more patients are turning to cannabidiol (CBD). It has been shown to have analgesic (pain-relieving) and anti-inflammatory properties that may be beneficial to gout patients.

CBD comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it is non-psychoactive.

THC is the other primary ingredient of medical marijuana and also comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant. Like CBD, THC can be used medicinally.

However, THC is often used recreationally and sometimes abused (9 ) . Because of THC’s addictive nature, it is likely that users may develop a dependence on it.

How CBD Oil Works to Alleviate Symptoms of Gout

Findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that gout is caused by hyperuricemia, the excessive uric acid buildup in the body (10 ) .

Individuals who have increased chances of developing hyperuricemia are usually obese males who have health problems, like hypertension, diabetes, and reduced kidney function (11 ) .

Certain diets may increase the likelihood of people developing gout. These consumption behaviors include drinking large quantities of alcohol and fructose-rich beverages.

Also at risk are those who often eat food high in purines, which the body breaks down into uric acid. Such foods include organ meats, red meats, and seafood, like sardines, tuna, and anchovies.

Gout has been dubbed as the “disease of kings” because it is generally caused by overindulgence in food and drinks (12 ) .

In the affected joints, gout may be detected when the following symptoms are observed: intense pain, redness, swelling, and heat (13 ) .

Gout may come in the form of acute gout or chronic gout. Acute gout only affects one joint, while chronic gout may occur repeatedly and affect more than one joint (14 ) .

CBD for Inflammation

Further research needs to be done on CBD’s therapeutic effects on gout symptoms. However, a significant number of studies conducted on CBD have suggested its anti-inflammatory properties.

A study published in Future Medicinal Chemistry concludes that cannabinoids have anti-inflammatory effects that may help treat several types of arthritis and inflammation-related diseases (15 ) . The primary cannabinoids are CBD and THC.

Cannabinoids are compounds that may come from the body, from plants, or laboratories. They interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and activate cannabinoid receptors , known as CB1 and CB2 receptors.

Cannabinoids help the ECS with several functions, like immune responses, mood, appetite, and memory.

Cannabinoids have been shown to help suppress cytokines at inflammatory sites in the body, reducing symptoms of inflammatory diseases (16 ) .

Cytokines are a group of proteins that can be classified as pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory (17 ) . Their modulation can balance the initiation and resolution of inflammation (18 ) .

CBD is a cannabinoid that is known to have anti-inflammatory properties (19 ) .

Another study in 2019 has found that CBD has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These therapeutic benefits may help treat several conditions, like arthritis, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, psychosis, among others (20 ) .

CBD for Pain Relief

A 2018 study states that cannabinoids, like CBD, may be useful in treating inflammation and pain (21 ) .

Research conducted in rodents that have osteoarthritis showed that CBD reduced inflammation and blocked osteoarthritis pain signals (22 ) .

The study suggested that CBD might be a safe and effective therapy for osteoarthritis. The researchers believe that they have discovered CBD’s neuroprotective properties.

Another study, this time on CBD as a topical pain reliever, has shown that the use of CBD gel on rat models markedly attenuated joint swelling and pain, without causing psychoactive side effects in the test subjects (23 ) .

In the study, the application of 6.2 mg and 62 mg of CBD gel per day, for four consecutive days after arthritis pain began, helped treat arthritis in rats .

The results of the animal study showed CBD as a promising treatment for pain relief in humans.

The Pros and Cons of CBD Oil for Gout

The Pros
  • Animal and human studies have reported the benefits of CBD in treating symptoms of gout.
  • CBD is safe for use because it has an excellent safety profile (24 ) .
  • CBD is non-addictive (25 ) . Thus, gout patients may not have to worry about developing a dependence on it.
The Cons
  • While there are studies on CBD’s potential in alleviating gout symptoms, research on CBD’s effectiveness in treating gout itself is lacking.
  • The United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) has not approved CBD use aside from the treatment of epilepsy.
  • There is no standard dosage for CBD when used for the treatment of gout.
  • CBD products are unregulated, resulting in a proliferation of mislabeled CBD products online (26 ) .

How CBD Oil Compares to Alternative Treatments for Gout

Although gout cannot be cured completely, patients’ lifestyle changes help manage their symptoms. These modifications include weight loss, diet changes, hypertension control, and change in medication regimens (27 ) .

A study has found that cherry consumption helps lower the risk of gout attacks (28 ) .

Studies have also been made on whether vitamin C intake helps in the attenuation of gout. However, the results of these studies are conflicting.

A study reports that vitamin C reduces uric acid levels and prevents gout recurrences (29 ) . Another study, meanwhile, concludes that vitamin C reduces the risk of gout development but does not significantly reduce uric acid in gout patients (30 ) .

Meanwhile, th e use of CBD has minimal risk factors, as common side effects include tiredness, diarrhea, and changes in appetite or weight (31 ) . CBD use may also help complement the alternative treatments mentioned previously.

However, it is not recommended to use CBD alongside traditional gout medications, such as corticosteroids (32 ) . The liver enzyme cytochrome P450 metabolizes these medications.

CBD may inhibit the P450 enzyme system and increase the risk of amplifying the side effects of gout medications (33 ) .

How to Choose the Right CBD for Gout

There are three types of CBD oils : full-spectrum CBD oil, broad-spectrum CBD oil, and isolates.

Full-spectrum oils make use of all the ingredients of cannabis plants, including less than 0.30% THC, fatty acids, flavonoids, terpenes, and essential oils.

The main advantage of using a full-spectrum oil is that its active ingredients synergize to produce an entourage effect. This mechanism is believed to generate maximum therapeutic benefits from the ingredients of the cannabis plant.

Full-spectrum oils contain THC, which may be detected via drug tests. THC may also cause mild psychoactive effects in some individuals.

Gout patients who want to avoid these potential risks may choose to buy broad-spectrum CBD oil. This type of oil has all the ingredients of a full-spectrum oil sans the THC.

Those who are looking for a CBD oil made of pure cannabidiol may purchase CBD isolates.

CBD Dosage for Gout

The rule when using CBD for gout is to begin with a low dosage. Patients can start with a few milligrams of CBD and increase the dosage in small increments if no adverse effects are observed.

The dosage amounts may be increased until significant improvements are noted .

Body weight should be considered when choosing a CBD dosage. The heavier the patient, the larger their required dose.

Average adults can take a maximum of around 5 mg of CBD daily.

Before adding CBD to one’s gout medication regimen, always consult with a doctor first.

How to Take CBD for Gout

There are various ways to take CBD in the treatment of gout. One way is through ingestion via CBD oil, CBD tinctures (droppers), CBD pills, CBD gummies , or CBD gel caps.

When a CBD product goes through the digestive tract, it takes effect in one to two hours. When taken sublingually (under the tongue) through tinctures, CBD may take effect in 15 to 45 minutes.

CBD can also be applied topically , on body parts affected by gout, as it is available in lotion, salve, or balm format.

There are CBD oil massages available, which may be beneficial to gout patients. CBD oil may help alleviate pain associated with gout (34 ) .

Another format is CBD vape or pen. When CBD is inhaled, effects may be observed instantaneously.

However, taking CBD by vaping is not recommended. There have been incidents that suggest that vaping may cause lung problems (35 ) .

Medical cannabis-related products, like CBD, may help in the treatment of gout symptoms. Further research, however, needs to be made on the therapeutic effects of CBD on gout itself.

Compared to most gout medications, CBD has been shown to have a more favorable safety profile. It is a treatment worth exploring as an added therapy for gout relief.

CBD Oil for Gout Pain Relief

We all know that western diets, which are notoriously low in vegetables and high in red meat, cause numerous adverse health outcomes such as diabetes and obesity. However, our diets also play a role in another condition, which causes extreme episodes of joint pain—gout.

Gout is a type of inflammatory arthritis that most commonly affects the big toe and can be a source of chronic pain. It develops due to deposits of uric acid crystals in the joints, which are sharp and, when jostled, cause excruciating pain.

The body naturally creates uric acid from the breakdown of purines. Purines are found in foods such as red meat, alcohol, and foods containing fructose. It is only when the body produces more uric acid than it excretes, and levels become too high, that gout occurs. In 90% of cases, gout occurs when the kidneys cannot excrete uric acid adequately.

Gout used to be known as the “disease of kings,” as kings were known for indulging in rich foods and drink. Today, gout is much more common among the general public, due to our “standard American diets.”

CBD Oil for Gout: Just the Facts

Gout is a painful condition that most often affects the joint at the base of the big toe, but can affect any of the body’s joints. Many people are turning to CBD oil to treat their gout pain due to its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Although there are few studies exploring the effectiveness of using CBD oil for gout pain relief, research shows CBD products are useful in relieving pain related to other arthritic conditions. Therefore, using CBD oil for gout makes sense.

    Risk Factors for Gout Attacks

    • Diets high in purines (red meat, fructose, beer)
    • Being male
    • Some medications, such as diuretics for high blood pressure
    • Family history of gout
    • Obesity
    • Kidney disease
    • Recent surgery
    • Recent trauma to a joint

    Experiencing Gout

Gout typically begins with an acute attack of severe pain in a joint, lasting 12 hours or so. After the acute gout flare-up, there is often still severe pain in the joint, which can last for several days or even a couple weeks. In addition, a person often feels tired, may have a fever, and may experience high blood pressure from the level of pain.

    Common Characteristics of Gout

    • Most common in the joint at the base of the big toe
    • Red, swollen, warm joint
    • Severe pain that is worse with movement
    • Fatigue
    • High fever

    Conventional Treatment of Gout

In most cases, medications for pain management are first-line therapy for an acute attack. These medications include pain relievers such as Naproxen or Ibuprofen. In some cases, corticosteroids are also prescribed to help with the inflammation.

    Preventing Gout

In most people, gout can be avoided by simple lifestyle changes. Helpful dietary changes include decreasing the intake of high purine foods (red meat, alcohol, and some types of seafood) and increasing the intake of antioxidant-rich foods such as vegetables. Also, drinking lots of water helps the kidneys flush out accumulated uric acid. Limiting alcohol and drinks that are sweetened with fructose is beneficial, as is exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy weight.

Some people are more prone to gout, especially those who have a history of gout attacks, a genetic predisposition, or an underlying health issue such as kidney disease. In these cases, long-term medications that decrease the levels of uric acid in the blood, like Allopurinol, may be necessary. However, it is recommended to always consult with your doctor.

    CBD and Gout

Many people report only some relief of their gout pain with painkillers. In addition, these drugs have several side effects, such as increasing the risk of gastric ulcers or perforation in the gut. For these reasons, people are turning to CBD oil for gout pain, for its cannabinoids content—which has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving abilities.

How to Use CBD Oil for Gout

Cannabis’s use as an analgesic for pain in dates back to 2800 B.C. CBD, which is derived from the Cannabis Sativa (or industrial hemp) plant, is emerging as a go-to for many types of pain conditions. CBD products do not contain THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis. You can ingest CBD oil orally or use it through topical application for joint pain.

    Endocannabinoid System and Pain

The endocannabinoid system is a signaling system within the nervous system, and it modulates the levels of pain we feel. Cannabinoids, including the cannabidiol that’s found in CBD products, stimulate cannabinoid receptors (cb2 receptors) within the endocannabinoid system. As a result, this can help reduce the perception of pain signals in the body. It can also reduce inflammation.

    Inflammation and Pain

Research has shown that CBD has potent anti-inflammatory properties. In other words, CBD is effective at reducing inflammatory chemicals, such as TNF and IL-12, in the joints. Furthermore, it has also been shown to modulate the immune system, which is responsible for creating inflammation.

Inflammation is a major component of pain, especially in gout. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that using CBD oil for gout pain may be helpful.

    What Research Has Been Done?

Currently, there are no studies on the efficacy of CBD oil and pain relief of gout in humans. However, there is good evidence to support CBD use in the treatment of other forms of arthritis. Multiple studies have shown that CBD is an effective treatment for reducing pain in other forms of arthritis—so it only makes sense that using CBD oil for gout (and the pain related to it) could be beneficial.

A recent study assessed whether a whole-plant medicine made from the cannabis plant (Sativex) is effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis pain. It found that there were significant improvements in pain on movement and pain at rest, as well as the quality of sleep of the study participants. Keep in mind that this study used a cannabis whole-plant medicine, which contains more active constituents than just CBD alone, including THC.

Animal studies have shown that topical application of CBD oil is effective in reducing pain levels. This study also found that CBD oil did work as an anti-inflammatory and reported a reduction in the number of inflammatory mediators in the affected joints.

    What the Research Says

Given that gout causes inflammation, which is responsible for some of gout’s symptoms, CBD is a promising treatment due to its anti-inflammatory properties and stimulation of the endocannabinoid system.

To date, there have not been any research studies on using CBD for gout, specifically. However, research into CBD’s effects on other types of arthritis pain has shown it to be an effective treatment, so its efficacy in using it for gout is promising.

Research supports that whole-plant cannabis supplements, which contain CBD, help manage joint pain in other inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis.

Animal studies show that topical CBD is effective for reducing joint pain and inflammation.

Our Thoughts On Using CBD Oil for Gout Pain

If you suffer from gout and are considering trying CBD oil for gout pain relief, it is recommended that you always speak with your physician first. And it should be noted that CBD oil alone will not prevent gout flare-ups from occurring, especially in those with kidney disease or other predisposing factors. This is because gout is due to an excessive build-up of uric acid in the blood, which is then converted into painful urate crystals.

CBD oil and other CBD products are not regulated by the United States FDA. Therefore, make sure you purchase any CBD products through a reputable source with third-party testing. This helps ensure both the quality and safety of the products.

Gout is a type of arthritis that causes extremely painful inflammation in the joints, which can be disabling. There are certain dietary choices, such as the consumption of large amounts of red meat or fructose, which may lead to developing gout. Also, genetics, kidney health, and other medical conditions are a factor.

Because many medications to treat gout come with side effects and risks, people are turning to alternative approaches like CBD oil to manage their gout symptoms.

Research indicates that the cannabinoids in CBD are a potent anti-inflammatory and effectively relieve pain related to rheumatoid arthritis, another type of arthritis. Although there has not been much research conducted regarding using CBD oil for gout directly, its use as a treatment for gout pain (both orally and topically) is promising and warrants further investigation.

Always consult your physician before beginning any new medications or supplements, including CBD products.
